A lone moulting Adélie Penguin celebrating the end is near. There are many stages of molting which takes approximately 20 days in total. During this time the Adélie penguin must stay on dry land as the water repelling features of their feathers are not available. Penguins start coming ashore in February and the peak of the moulting season is in March. The Adélie penguin can be around 70 centimetres tall and weigh between 3.8 – 8.2kg.
